38 Problem Formalization: The goal is to prove that f(x) = y without revealing the function f. This scenario is illustrated with an amusement park height requirement example where f represents the height requirement function, x represents an individual's measurements, and y is a binary output (admitted or denied).
16 Linear Algebra Review (Vectors): A vector is a list of numbers, and vector multiplication is explained.
55 Functions as Vectors: The video introduces the idea of representing functions as vectors, with a simple example demonstrating how a function can be represented as a vector to perform a specific operation (checking the first bit).
37 Hiding the Function (f): Instead of directly revealing f, the idea is to demonstrate knowledge of a solution to a related problem that implies f(x) = y. This is explained through the concepts of completeness (knowing f(x) = y means having a solution to the related problem) and soundness (having a solution implies f(x) = y).
49 Linear Algebra Review (Matrices): Matrices and matrix operations are reviewed.
35 Pre-image Sampling from a Discrete Gaussian: The related problem is introduced: given a matrix (c bar) and a vector (u), find a vector (z) such that c bar * z = u, where z is sampled from a discrete Gaussian distribution. This is challenging when c bar and u are random.
29 Linear Algebra Review (Gadgets): The identity matrix and the Kronecker product are introduced, leading to the definition of the Gadget Vector and Gadget Matrix (G). These gadgets have special properties that allow for efficient pre-image sampling.
09 Pre-image Sampling with a Trapdoor: If a trapdoor matrix (T) exists such that c bar * T = G, pre-image sampling becomes easier.
49 Pre-image Sampling with the Gadget Matrix: The video explains how the Gadget Matrix's structure makes pre-image sampling efficient through rejection sampling and isolating solutions.
11 Hiding f with Pre-image Sampling: The connection between pre-image sampling and the original problem is made. The goal is to design a system where knowing f(x) = y allows for pre-image sampling of z, and having z implies f(x) = y (completeness and soundness). Additionally, the solution z should not reveal f (hiding), and only f should be usable (binding).
10 Completeness: The video demonstrates how to construct a matrix (c bar) that allows pre-image sampling when f(x) = y, using the Gadget Matrix.
15 Soundness (Part 1): The video shows that if f(x) ≠ y, efficiently generating a trapdoor is difficult, linking this to the need for c bar and u to be random.
51 Soundness (Part 2): To ensure randomness, a random matrix (C) is incorporated into c bar.
00 Hiding: The verification process is analyzed to ensure it doesn't reveal information about f.
40 Binding (Part 1): The construction of the commitment (CF) is examined, highlighting the presence of f and raising the question of whether f can be replaced.
28 Binding (Part 2): Instead of directly binding to f, the focus shifts to binding to the output y. The goal is to make it difficult to produce two solutions (z and z') with different outputs (y and y').
22 Linear Algebra Review (Short Integer Solution – SIS): The SIS problem is introduced: given a random matrix A, find small vectors x and e such that Ax = e.
15 Binding (Part 2 – Continued): The video shows how breaking the binding property would solve the SIS problem, which is believed to be hard.
13 Functional Commitment Schemes: The four algorithms of a functional commitment scheme are outlined: setup, commit, opening, and verify. The scheme's properties are also listed: correctness, function hiding, zero-knowledge evaluations, and evaluation binding.
57 Why Functional Commitment Schemes are Useful: The amusement park example is revisited to illustrate the benefits of the scheme in terms of privacy and security.
38 Construction of a Functional Commitment Scheme: The specific construction of the scheme based on the previous steps is outlined.
30 Getting All Functions: The video explains how to extend the scheme beyond linear Boolean functions to encompass all functions by representing them as networks of additions and multiplications. It then outlines how addition and multiplication can be implemented within the scheme.
